About Dansk Sommer

Summer School near Copenhagen

Dansk Sommer is a summer school for children ages 4-14 running for two weeks in the summer in late July - early August. The school days are Monday - Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and take place at Rygaard's International School in Hellerup, close to Copenhagen.

Who is it for?

As we focus on Danish language through games, activities and friendships, many of the children are from families with one or two Danish parents living abroad on a daily basis, others are newcomers in Denmark wishing to learn more Danish. However, we also welcome local children looking for activities and new friendships in their summer holiday.

Teachers

All activities are led by experienced teachers specialising in Danish plus one or more creative subjects. They all have the desire to be an inspiration and be part of the project.

Activities

Activities vary from games outside, presentations and sport competitions to excursions and reading- and writing exercises in a differentiated and creative context.

Speaking Danish

The summer school provides an environment where children are constantly listening to and speaking a modern day Danish, which they may know, but not use very much in their everyday life. Children will experience the language in a new and larger context than 'merely' mum's or dad's language.

Writing Danish

We know that  written Danish is a skill  which can be difficult to practise, when children do not attend a Danish school on a daily basis. Therefore, in addition to speaking Danish, we  offer to help write texts in Danish according to age and ability.

Games and fun

Even though we have high standards for language learning, Dansk Sommer are well aware of the importance of having a lot of games, sports and fun as part of the program. We believe that friendships and games, combined with the language exercises, is the key to learning as well as having fun.
